Illustrated throughout with contemporary b/white halftone plates (mostly internal workshop photographs), plus an organisational chart, a production line chart and a centre-spread works layout map. Booklet clean and square. Monochrome, pictorially-illustrated paper wrapper has several creases, a short repaired closed tear, and mild soiling and edgewear. An extremely rare British Railways carriage and wagon works at Derby brochure demonstrating the size and scope of this huge railway works. Covering 128 acres, with employee numbers approx. 5000 over twenty different trades, building 300 new carriages and 5000 wagons each year plus repairs to an additional 3500 carriages and 10,000 wagons. This brochure describes the manufacturing shops, followed by the finishing and assembly shops, and finally ancillary shops.
