146pp. Book clean and square. Vivid silver title over minimally bumped spine. Plain blue boards undamaged. Textblock edges mildly flecked. Endpapers splotched and flecked. Sketch-illustrated, loose-plastic protected dustjacket slightly edgeworn, spine lightly tanned, else random flecks. Encouraged by Frederick Lemaitre, a popular French actor in the mid 1830s, Emmanual Theaulon wrote a play based on English actor Edmund Kean, who had died three years previously. The play flopped and was given to Alexandre Dumas to rewrite, becoming a huge success. For the modern audience, Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) undertook a new rewrite. This volume, from that rewrite, was translated from the French by Kitty Black. In five acts: Act 1, Scene One: The Hall of the Danish Embassy in London . . .
