128pp., b/white, author-portrait frontispiece. Book clean and square. Bright gilt title over lightly bumped spine. Plain blue boards nominally bumped on upper rear foredge corner. Textblock clean and unmarked. Illustrated (art-design front - Kenneth Farnhill; author portrait, as frontis, on rear) loose-plastic protected dustjacket edgeworn, colour-faded title on spine, plus random surface chipping. Translated from the Russian by Max Hayward and Manya Harari. Boris Pasternak (1890-1960) had hoped to live long enough to finish this play, however the text he left probably amounts to between half to two thirds of what he had planned . . . The play's cast of characters is almost a complete range of social types . . . Contents include: Prelims., Foreword, List to Characters, Prologue, Scene One, Two, Act One Scene One, Act One Scene Two.
