THE UNOFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE 29/46TH AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BATTALION A.I.F. September 1939 - September 1945, [Edited By] Rupert Charlott (Alt. Name: Rupert Charlett)
42 [Edited By] Rupert Charlott (Alt. Name: Rupert Charlett) THE UNOFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE 29/46TH AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BATTALION A.I.F. September 1939 - September 1945
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (Printed by) Halstead Press, Sydney 1952 First Edition. Hardcover Good +
x, + 147pp. plus (56). Colour-plate frontispiece. Two-colour line-drawn endpapers (both inner hinges just starting - front hinge has areas of biopredation, but still solid). A fantastic 56 page (paginated as plates) b/white halftone plate section (captioned plates, most naming the featured soldiers). All called-for plates extant and attached. Patinated, but legible, gilt title (includes variant author surname spelling 'Charlett' - apparently the correct spelling), over lightly bumped, and canted spine. Battalion colours over minimally flecked and bumped blue cloth boards. Other than previously noted, textblock unmarked. No dustjacket. Rupert Charles Charlett (Charlott) (1908-1984) was an official war correspondent with the Argus newspaper in Melbourne. In this 'unofficial' history, he gives a graphic depiction of activities of the 29/46th Battalion in New Guinea and their extensive patrols and skirmishes. From December 1943 to April 1944 the 4th Brigade, of which they were part, followed the coast from Gusika to Lakona with the 29/46th capturing Fortification Point. A short break back in Australia, and with additional training, the 29/46th returned to the islands, this time to New Britain. By January 1945 the threat from the enemy was diminishing and the 29/46th spent most of their time at Jacquinot Bay training and patrolling. In September, 1945, with the war over, the ranks of the 29/46th gradually thinned and by June 1946 the battalion was disbanded . . . The contents of this extremely scarce history of the 29/46th Australian Infantry Battalion include: Prelims., 15 chapters, Roll of Honour, Illustrated section. LEST WE FORGET. Book weight approx. 450g. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
