This travelling retrospective exhibition of Australian abstract impressionist painter John Richard Passmore (b. 4 February, 1904) was several years in the planning, opening on 19 December, 1984, later travelling to Tasmania, Victoria, and finally Newcastle, New South Wales, until August 1985. Sadly, John Passmore died on 9 October, 1984, shortly before his exhibition opened . . . Book clean and square. White titles over undamaged backstrip, and lightly bumped black boards. Textblock pristine. Colour-art illustrated ('Ned Kelly, 1946', Sidney Nolan), loose-plastic protected dustjacket mildly edgeworn and scuffed on plain black rear panel. This stunning book was produced for an Australian travelling exhibition of Sir Sidney Nolan (1917-1992), documenting the first major exhibition of the artist since his death in the U.K., where he had lived since 1953. The 117 paintings displayed here-in cover from 1930s abstracts in Melbourne to the climatic paintings of his final decade at 'The Rodd' in Herefordshire . . . The exhibition began in Sydney, Australia, in November 2007 and ended in Brisbane in August 2008. With an Introduction by Edmund Capon, and contributions by Frances Lindsay and Lou Kepac, contents include: Prelims., Introduction, Nolan's Parallel Universe, Sidney Nolan - the end of St Kilda Pier, Nolan, Ripolin and the act of painting, The Paintings, Catalogue, Biographical Notes, Exhibitions, Selected Bibliography, List of Works.
